More than 40 years of best Service in the Heart of Europe
It all started on March 31 in 1958 when a leased Vickers
Viscount of Austrian Airlines took of to London. This first
flight marked the beginning of an airline, rather small
on an international scope, but offering top quality and
establishing itself as an expert in travels to Eastern Europe,
the CIS states and the Middle East right from the start.
More than once in their history, Austrian Airlines were
pioneers, daring to fly to unknown "spots" in
Eastern Europe.
The leased Vickers Viscount soon were replaced, and Austrian
Airlines entered the jet age with the French Caravelle,
the "lady" among aircraft. MD80ies were the heart
of the fleet in the late seventies and in the eighties,
whereas today, Austrian Airlines are introducing a mere
Airbus fleet step by step.
The first type of the European manufacturer was the A310,
which also opened the long-haul operation in 1989. Now,
there are also A320, A321, A330 and A340 flying within Europe
as well as to North America, Africa, China and Japan with
the typical red arrow on the tail.
Together with the partners of the Austrian Airlines Group
- founded in 1998 - Rheintalflug, Lauda Air and Tyrolean
Airways, Austrian Airlines offer a network of 111 destinations
in 61 countries on five continents.
There also have been international co-operations since
the beginnings, e.g. with Swissair, Sabena or SAS. Since
March 26th, 2000 Austrian Airlines are member of Star Alliance,
the largest airline alliance in the world.
Austrian Airlines consider themselves to be a well-appreciated
partner in international civil aviation due to their dedication
to highest quality in all parts of the company.
Austrian Airline - the most friendly airline.
