POSTAL SERVICES
Thailand's mail service is reliable and efficient, Major hotels
provide basic postal services on their premises. Bangkok's
Central G.P.O. on New Road is open from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00
p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Telegrams may
be sent at any time of the day or night. Provincial post offices
are usually open from 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Air -mail letters weighing 10g or less cost 13 Baht to Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and 16 Baht to the Americas. Aerograms cost 10 Baht regardless of the destination, while postcards are 9 Baht.
Letter sent by registered mail cost 20 Baht in addition to regular air-mail postage. International express mail (EMS) fees vary according to country of destination. Sample rates for items weighing 100 to 250g are: Japan 250 Baht; Australia, Germany and the UK 215 Baht; France, Canada and the USA 235 Baht Within Thailand, this service costs only 20 Baht (100 to 250g) in addition to regular postage.
The rates for parcels shipped by post very according to weight (rising in one-kg increments), country of destination and whether they're shipped by surface (takes up to two months) or air (one to two weeks). See the Parcel Postage Rates table below for sample prices.
Most Provincial post offices sell do-it-yourself packing boxes (11 sizes!) costing from 5 to 35 Baht; tape and string are provided at no charge. Some offices even have packing services, which cost from 4 to 10 Baht per parcel depending on size. Private pacing services may also be available in the vicinity of large provincial post offices.
Your can insure a package's contents for 8.50 Baht for each 1,740 Baht of the goods' value.

The telephone Organization of Thailand (TOT) recently announced the telephone dialling system of the whole country to avoid confusion, the additional digits will be taken from the area code. For the capital area, the 02 code must be added to the existing seven-digit number, while making upcountry calls will require adding the three-digit area code to the original six-digit number.

Simply dial the 01 code and follow with its seven-digit number. The number can be written as 0 1873 6500
Making an International Call to Thailand
Dial the country code, follow with the area code without zero and the number you wish to call. For example, to make an international call to Phuket which has the area code of 076, you should dial +66 7612 3456
International Call
International phone calls can be made quite easily from mid-to upper-level hotels. There is direct dialing to and from more than 80 countries on five continents. Rates for calling outside the country are normally continents. Rates for calling outside the country are normally considerably higher than for calling domestically, so if you expect a long conversation you can save some money by having your party call back if possible. If you can call from your hotel. Go to the General Post Office (GPO) on New Road, or any major post office, where there are special booths for making overseas calls.
To direct- dial an international number (other than those in Malaysia and Laos) from a private phone, simply dial Tel. 001 before the number. For operator-assisted international calls, dial Tel. 100.
The Home Direct service is available at Bangkok's GPO, at airports in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai and Surat Thani, and at post office CAT centres in Bangkok, Hat Yai, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Surat Thani, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Kanchanaburi. Home Direct phones offer easy one-button some 20 countries around the world. You can also direct-dial Home Direct access numbers from any private phone (most hotel phones won't work) in Thailand.

All of Thailand's leading hotels offer facsimile (fax) and e-mail services. Numerous private businesses offer such facilities, most often in conjunction with translation services.
INTERNATIONAL ROAMING MOBILE PHONE
A subscriber Identity Module Card (SIM Card) is now available
for Thai and foreign customers who are travelling around for
work. The SIM Card must be used in conjunction with a Digital
GSM mobile phone within the 900-MHz range or a Digital PCN
mobile phone within the 1800-MHz range
INTERNET SERVICE
Thailand has been expanding its information services for residents and tourists alike through the internet system. Services are now available at Thailand's leading hotels and at the many "cyber cafes" that are cropping up in all major tourist destinations.
